What's your favourite word?
« on: June 25, 2013, 01:46:49 PM »
I've been thinking a lot about this questions.   Yes, that is how I spend my day -- thinking about silly questions like this.

And yet I have still to come up with a word I consider "favourite".    How does one measure it?   By how many times you use it?  By how it sounds when you say it?  By how it makes you feel when you read it?   It's impossible.

So, I searched the web and found a few favourite word sites to get some ideas.  The most interesting were....

http://phrontistery.info/favourite.html Yes, phronistery is a word.

http://www.merriam-webster.com/info/favorite.htm Ones that aren't in the dictionary

http://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/19pffe/reddit_whats_your_favourite_word_in_the_english/ A few I've never heard before...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/7659954.stm Don't mind him, he's just a poodle-faker!

And I'm still not closer to finding my favourite.  Perhaps I'll just pick one I use the most, like "the".

I have a lot of words I like to use in essays... "Extrapolated" is one of them. "Connotates" is another. I like buzz words that get extra marks in exams :D

Balance

Virtually every subject matter I debate and most things I aspire to be in life, I inevitably come back to the conclusion I wish to achieve a balance.

Okay.

Anyone who knows me (in real life) knows that when I tell a story, I start with "Okay". If somebody laughs or trips me up and I have to start over again, it always begins with "Okay". It's a word I subconsciously can't live without.

My daughter says I like to mutter "crazy" under my breath in my native. So I tried to stay crazy - free. it was... well,  crazy.

Monotonous...

I love saying that word over and over again.

Also, in response to Khamanna's post, I have a weird story with me blurting out words. One of New Zealand's former Prime Ministers has the second name Holyoake. Of course, me being the weird person that I am, I thought this name had the best ring a name ever could!

So...  :-[... I um....  :-[

Walked around the house screaming "Holyoake" in a nice deep voice for about five minutes, before realizing I wasn't home alone. Turns out my mum was home... With a hangover... She wasn't happy  8).

I've often thought you could challenge yourself to write a script on the back of a word, to be used at the title.

For example, what stories would write for;

# Soiled

# isolation

# confusion

# absent

The list could go on forever, but useful ways of thinking...what would the story be.
