I've been away from writing, away from this site (and other ones), for a while.  I let work get in the way and there was no time for writing, but I will be off for a couple of months starting in May.  I just might give this one a whirl.  Good luck to all that are in.

I can provide you with one actual clue for this challenge.  When you decipher it you should see what the topic is for the next challenge. And do not blame me if you get it too quickly, I am doing my best. There is more art to this clue stuff than there is science.

2.2 1.2 2.7 3.5 2.1 3.12 3.13 3.3 4.1

It's actually pretty easy to solve and I'll give you a hint.  It's a book cipher.

The judging will happen just like last time.   Only this time we have the UK represented on our panel, as well as the US and OZ.

Leader points are the points that go toward the leader board.  That pretty much sums up who's done the best in all the challenges on the site - including forum challenges.

That's easy!

2.2 1.2 2.7 3.5 2.1 3.12 3.13 3.3 4.1  = something I cannot understand
Romantic comedy = something I cannot undertand

therefore:
2.2 1.2 2.7 3.5 2.1 3.12 3.13 3.3 4.1 = romantic comedy

Interesting. I almost thought it had to with aftershocks at first, but since you said book cipher, I'm a little stumped at the moment. I personally don't think it is a rom-com.  Musical, perhaps  :P

I always knew you were more intelligent than us, and this reinforces the belief.

I am on the inside looking out and I still have absolutely no idea.

If anyone can get this cipher, you may as well just give them the prize. Hee Hee

When you guys and girls learn how this cipher works, you're going to "Doh".  It's simple.  It's not a matter of intelligence but you do have to think about it.

I'll admit I had to look up what a book cipher was and I'm still at a loss for the subject matter...

Looking forward to finding out -- been in hibernation mode for a while with work commitments, but I've finally got some time concentrate on the writing.

I can 1.2 provide you with one actual clue for this challenge.  When 2.1 you 2.2 decipher it you should see 2.7 what the topic is for the next challenge. And do not 3.3 blame me 3.5 if you get it too quickly, I 3.12 am 3.13 doing my best. There 4.1 is more art to this clue stuff than there is science.

2.2 1.2 2.7 3.5 2.1 3.12 3.13 3.3 4.1

The way this cipher works is that the text above the cipher is used as the key.  The first number 1-4 indicates the sentence.  The second number indicates the word number in the sentence.  Easy Peasy. :-)

You wouldn't believe it but today I saw a short story in my dream (and I'm not goofing around) - it's a fine story (in my simple mind it is!) and I'm going to put it down.

I will submit if I find a way to squeze the ghost in. It's a kind of a "ghost-squezable" story.

Hey K,

I once saw a short in my dreams and woke up and wrote it. It has been optioned 6 times and produced twice.

Good luck and look forward to the read.

Can folks put in more than one entry?

And does the "losing control of their bodily functions" have to be before our eyes, or can it be something someone discovers after the fact.  Like if someone comes upon a corpse that has evacuated itself, or a nurse walks into room to find their patient has soiled the bed?

Lovely stuff to asking over my morning coffee.

You can put in as many entries as you like.

Also anyone can lose control of their bodily functions or even come across someone who has. As long as it's clear and the reader is aware of what has happened then you don't need to show it happen and can show the after effects.

Good luck and look forward to the read.

Couple of questions, just to clarify:

Does 'losing control of bodily functions' specifically relate to a persons bowels or more broadly their motor skills/actions and mind in general?

Also does the ghost have to be 'seen' i.e. Casper or The Shining or could it be a supernatural force that's implied such as in Paranormal Activity?

Just wondering what the boundaries are here -- if any.

Thanks.

Ditto on the ghost clarification.  Suppose its is a case of kid wanting to see his dead mom so badly he manifests her in the room.  She's part of his narrative and they have conversations, but no one else sees her.  Does that tick the ghost box?  I imagine it would have to be a fairly loose definition.

Hey guys, sorry for the late reply though I am on the other side of the big round ball.

The reference "Losing control of your bodily functions" does refer to a bowel movement, whether at the front or the back it can be up to you !!!! It can be either a number ONE or a number TWO. Hee Hee great morning conversation.

You don't have to see the ghost as long as the reader is aware that it does exist in the story.

Hope this clears things up.

And as to whether or not you want to include a bowel movement in your script, I think that we can agree that there can be other sorts of losses of bodily functions.  So use your creativity and surprise us.

Suppose its is a case of kid wanting to see his dead mom so badly he manifests her in the room.  She's part of his narrative and they have conversations, but no one else sees her.  Does that tick the ghost box?

THat would be my question as well.

I think you need to be creative and write what you think meets the criteria.  There will be more than one judge and they will each bring their own interpretation of the criteria to the table.  They won't be influencing each other's scores.   Scoring will be similar to the last challenge (without the bonus points).
